CHAPTER 12 â A SEA OF TRAGEDY AND WOLVES
There were people everywhere and they all painted the same picture, one of malnourishment, weakness and tragedy. I saw Dozer dancing and jumping and goofing around for three children, ages seven to ten. They looked horrible but my boy was breaking small grins and smiles from the little ones while Lola was doing swoops in and out of Dozeâs disco moves.
My Brother was chatting with two men, both looking like some kind of melee classes, though strange ones, one with knuckle dusters and looked like some low grade light chain, the other with a bo staff and some kind of monk robe.
Mase clocked me and made small talk then walked away from the two men. His face was grim in all ways that could be called grim, well grim mixed with worry.
âI take it by the look on your face the Whispter hasnât arrived?â
My Brother growled, growled and looked at me with real anger in his eyes. âHer name is Danny, Danielle, not Whipster.â I could feel the misery and stress and concern underlying the outburst.
âSorry Mase. I am sure Danielle is fine and on her way right now. As you told me yourself, she is vicious and skilled and no one wins juniors in singles nor gets to the Championship rounds in singles without being damn good.â I was going to say more but right then is when I looked over my Brotherâs head and saw a huge building almost to completion on the far side of the Housing that could be nothing else then a Temple.
âIs that the Temple?â Mase looked over his shoulder and nodded. âI told Salazar we needed that and the Shrine to Dusk which I guess goes inside the Temple. I guess being the Patron of these lands everything begins and ends with Mystriel.â I took that in and then once again looked at all the people wandering around. No one seemed to be dawdling besides the small amount of kids. The all seemed to be on tasks, some coming out of the forest with lumber, others building small structures, others finishing up on the Temple though it seemed the system actually was doing most of the work, buildings magically going up, but still people were moving the resources. They looked weak and many were stumbling but they were trying. âWhere did all these people come from Mason? And did any of them have news on Danielle?â
He looked at me with misery riding his hips. âItâs a shit show Dom. So many, so many lost, murdered really when you take normal people and shove them into a pit with things trying to kill them. Lots of kids dead, people dead. The two I was talking to, I donât know if you remember them. We fought them once last year. They arenât bad but they arenât good either. A couple of marital artists who decided to try their hand at ACS. They were in the group at the hotel with Danny.
